Situated in Nankana Sahib near Lahore, Gurdwara Janam Asthan is one of the most revered places in Pakistan. The shrine represents the home of Mehta Kalyan Das and Tripta, the parents of Guru Nanak Dev, where the Guru was born. The shrine was established by Baba Dharam Chand (1523-1618), the son of Baba Lakshmi Das and the grandson of Guru Nanak Dev. The shrine was visited by Guru Arjan Dev (1563-1606). The present Gurdwara was built by Maharaja Ranjit Singh (1780-1839) who ruled over Sikh empire from 12 April 1801 to 27 June 1839.
