Situated in Potohar Plateau of Punjab, the Katas Raj Temples were built around a sacred pond, which, according to Puranas, had been created from the teardrops of Lord Shiva. The Mahabharta mentions these temples as a place where Pandov brothers spent time during their exile. Another tradition says that they engaged in riddle contest with Yakshas at this place. According to another tradition, Lord Krishna laid foundations of these temples. The temples have been renovated by the government of Pakistan. The local experts claim that the discovered artifacts date 6000-7000 BCE.
